I threw away my 6-figure salary for a 50%+ pay cut.

All in the name of passion.

This was 5 years ago.

I was sick of the corporate world.

For 7 years before that, I was stuck in my shiny job as a VP at  BlackRock.

But this isn’t a story about “follow your dreams” because if I’d started a family back then, I would have done things a LOT differently.

That’s the thing about careers and career values – we don’t have to stick to the same career all our lives just because that’s where we started.

We are allowed to grow.

To change.

As long as we’re honest with ourselves.

Now that I’m a mum, I can’t JUST focus on following my passion.

I need flexibility so I can make time for my baby.

It’s why I decided to quit my dream job in fashion and build a career coaching business.

And when I found out I was pregnant, I recognised I had to learn to run my business a different way.

And learn to let go and scale.

I couldn’t focus on being the sole coach who served my clients.

I had to find a way to hire more coaches, more social media managers, and more salespeople.

This in turn would create more time, space and opportunity for myself as I enter a new chapter of my life: Motherhood.

My career path and business strategy should not stay the same over 5+ years.

And neither should yours.

We value different things at different phases of life. Our careers should reflect that too.

Linear career paths just aren't realistic.
